چکیده
Swelling is commonly observed in austenitic stainless steels irradiated at high doses and temperatures, such as fuel claddings Fast-Breeder Reactors (FBR), a consequence of the formation irradiation-induced nanovoids. Macroscopic embrittlement has been reported above critical swelling level. Several physical explanations have proposed void-related fracture mechanisms phase transformation associated with local changes microchemistry. In addition, structural effects can affect level, tentatively explained by corrosion, gradient bending effects. order to address these phenomena, an extended experimental database first presented, based on pins Phénix fast reactor, showing evolution conventional tensile properties swelling. present database, 15-15Ti specimens were from 30 120 dpa, irradiation temperatures ranging 400 °C 625 maximum 11%. Other data published scientific literature also included analysis extend range up 30%. SEM TEM are summarized highlight specific related presence voids. Theoretical finite element simulations then performed porous materials constitutive equations rationalize observations. Analytical numerical results show that swelling-induced be understood mechanical perspective transition void growth coalescence deformation mode. The effect spatial heterogeneity distribution quantified shown key parameter. Structural coming tests ring axial cladding thickness quantified. Numerical compared data, good agreement observed.

Low-Temperature Carburization of Austenitic Stainless Steels
LOW-TEMPERATURE CARBURIZATION is a gaseous carburization process performed at atmospheric pressure, at temperatures where the kinetics of substitutional diffusion are very slow. Low-temperature carburization hardens the surface of austenitic stainless steels through the diffusion of interstitial carbon, without the formation of carbides. The surface must be activated, by modification and remova...
متن کاملDevelopment of Alumina-Forming Austenitic Stainless Steels
This paper presents the results of the continued development of creep-resistant, alumina-forming austenitic (AFA) stainless steel alloys, which exhibit a unique combination of excellent oxidation resistance via protective alumina (Al2O3) scale formation and high-temperature creep strength through the formation of stable nano-scale MC carbides and intermetallic precipitates. Efforts in fiscal ye...
متن کاملY Studies on Austenitic Stainless Steels
Abstract--In this investigation, the fracture surfaces of SS 304 and SS 316 austenitic steels were analysed using the X-ray fractography technique. In both cases, a decrease in the austenite content was observed at the fracture surface as a result of deformation induced martensite, indicating a linear relation with Km~ within the stable crack growth region. The presence of this martensite was f...
متن کاملNeural network model of creep strength of austenitic stainless steels
The creep rupture life and rupture strength of austenitic stainless steels have been expressed as functions of chemical composition, test conditions, stabilisation ratio, and solution treatment temperature . The method involved a neural network analysis of a vast and general database assembled from published data. The outputs of the model have been assessed against known metallurgical trends an...
متن کاملModelling simultaneous precipitation reactions in austenitic stainless steels
A physical model has been developed for simultaneous precipitation reactions in austenitic stainless steels, taking into account interactions between phases. Comparisons against experimental results show satisfying agreement, with the model successfully predicting the existence of transient phases that are often observed, but not predicted in equilibrium calculations. An analysis of σ -phase ki...
